Whanganui has been selected as one of only five regions to pilot Welcoming Communities – a programme to make newcomers to our district feel welcome.
As part of this programme, the Council is working toward a Welcoming Communities Plan for our community and we need your voices.
We want everyone in Whanganui to be able to fully participate in the economic, civic and social life of our community. When people feel they belong, everyone in the community is likely to enjoy better social outcomes, greater social cohesion and stronger economic growth.
If you’re a newcomer – recent migrant, former refugee, international student or a person/ family moving here from other parts of New Zealand or even the world we would love to hear from you.
And if you’re a local, we need your local expertise and guidance to ensure every handshake is a firm one (and our greetings are warm and fuzzy).
Get involved by completing the Whanganui Welcoming Communities Survey (estimated completion time: 6-8 minutes-we promise!) and shape the Whanganui Welcoming Communities Plan, due to be delivered by mid-2018.

I think this is a really good initiative and I look forward to seeing results. I have always thought our little town is pretty welcoming but it would be good to hear it from the people who haven’t been here that long.

Hi, I work at the Court House ane often have visitors come in. Newbies often have forms that need signing or need directions etc. We always make time for them and hold Wanganui maps to give out.
